In the early ’90s, Lorenzo Nistri worked on creating a calendar dedicated to cinema stars, both Italian and international. For this project—which was later left incomplete due to technical and editorial reasons—he produced more than 30 color plates, most of which remain unpublished to this day. These plates featured the actresses and actors who starred in his most famous posters, as well as others whom, on the contrary, he had never painted during his long career as a cinema painter. From Sophia Loren to Marcello Mastroianni, from John Wayne to Audrey Hepburn, from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Julia Roberts, and from Totò to Charlie Chaplin, dozens of cinema greats come together in a grand tribute to the greatness of the “seventh art” by one of Italy’s most important movie painters. For this reason, we wanted to bring together on a single page on the website all the works created for this project, which represent another fascinating piece of Lorenzo Nistri’s art.
